In this time of unprecedented global change, people
everywhere are waking up to the need to downsize, recycle,
buy local, and eat and grow more fresh, organic produce.To
grow nutritious food locally for a whole community requires
good seeds, good soil and good farming; and the means to
sustain all three. In addition to the use of organic and
beyond organic methods, adopting the principles of
Regenerative Agriculture can help farmers create ever more
regenerative cycles of local production and consumption. In
this way, everyone benefits including the planet.
Darren Doherty, a foremost authority in Broadacre
Permaculture design (large scale), will talk about how farms
can become beacons of regeneration, working together with
local communities for their joint collective future. He will
share techniques for use on farms and by individuals for
waste recycling, water-harvesting, rapid soil development,
as well as other methods for managing land regeneratively on
a broad scale.
About Darren Doherty
Darren comes from Australia and has extensive experience in
Permaculture project design, development and management. He
had taught with Bill Mollison and worked with David
Holmgren, both of whom are the originators of Permaculture.
He has been involved in the design and development of over
1400, mostly broadacre projects across 5 continents in more
than 40 countries.
These span 1 million hectare cattle
stations in Australia’s Kimberly to 110,000 acre Estancias
in Patagonia; EcoVillage developments in Tasmania to
Public/Private R&D Agroforestry and Education Projects in
Viet Nam. His clients include a range of private, corporate,
government and non-profits. He is founder of RegenAg and
believes passionately in partnering with nature for the
regeneration of land and communities everywhere.
His
business motto is “We’re doing this for Life.”
Regenerative Agriculture - foreword in his thinking, Darren
also draws upon a number of other land management strategies
such as Holistic Management, Keyline Design, BioFertilisers
and 'PolyMarketing' that are complementary to Permaculture.
Taken together these form the basis of Regenerative
Agriculture, an approach that partners with nature for
nature and the regeneration of local communities and
economies.
